Presentation of the Foundation
The objectives of the Alliance BioSecure Foundation cover all of the issues associated with biological risks, by focusing on assessing each link in the chain, starting from the potential propagation of infectious agents from environment to patient or to the consumer.
Among these issues are:
- The detection of the infectious agent, which concerns both the qualification of biological raw material or tissue (blood, plasma, food, etc …) and the analysis of the exposure of populations. The technology involved can then apply to fundamental physiopathological research and to the study of the efficiency of the manufacturing processes for medicinal products of biological origin.
- Decontamination, which concerns the sterilisation of surgical or diagnostic materials, as well as the regeneration of manufacturing equipment and ensuring the biological safety of intermediaries in the food chain.
- Elimination, for which the study of the efficiency of processes participates fully towards ensuring the biological safety of plasma derived products, as well as of labile blood products.
- Physiopathological and fundamental research, which may at any time lead to the discovery of new physicochemical or biological mechanisms, providing the possibility of therapeutic intervention and interrupt the proliferation and transmission processes of potential infectious agents.
In addition, the Foundation has set an educational goal, as a pedagogical approach is necessary in order to participate towards the prevention and proper management of biological risks.
These objectives will be realised through an annual call for projects responding to the research themes selected by the Scientific Advisory Board and in accordance with the objectives of the Foundation. The international quality and independence of the Scientific Advisory Board and the transparency of the project selection process will guarantee the application of research of the very highest level, guided by excellence and general interest.
This call for projects will enable the financing of ambitious biological safety projects, undertaken by both public and private research teams.
The Foundation will add to its support of research projects through scientific communication, such as organising congresses and symposiums, or collecting donations and legacies which could allow the recurrent financing of the Foundations actions.
